KID PICKS-- This summer, Arthur (a third grader) enjoyed The Great Serum Race, by Debbie S. Miller.  It's the exciting story of a 1925 diptheria outbreak in Nome, Alaska, and how the antitoxin was brought in by sled dog teams.  The famous March Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race commemorates that achievement. Laura (a new second grader) liked Daisy Meadows' Olivia the Orchid Fairy, one in the seven Petal Fairies series by Scholastic.  Magic, rainbows, and flowers!  And the flowers could all disappear, if Jack Frost has his way.  Oh no!
