Thank you to everyone who came out to support the Reston
Regional Library by shopping at our Friends’ book sale for children, YA, and
educators!
This sale really does show our community at its best! We saw kids using Summer Reading coupons to
get a book of their very own; we saw long time readers find old favorites and
take them home to share with a new generation (“Honey, you’re going to love The
Velveteen Rabbit!”), and we saw young readers share new favorites with parents
and grandparents (“Grampa, you’re going to love Dog Man!”); we saw veteran
teachers dropping knowledge and new teachers building their very first
classroom libraries.
And more than once, we saw people helping each other
out. Kids helping shoppers carry stacks
of books to their car; a patron slipping some extra cash to a new teacher to
help her clear her list; a college freshman patiently shopping for her friend
who couldn’t make it home from school for the sale….
This sale has All The Things! Using entirely donated
materials (which might otherwise have gone into landfills!), our all-volunteer
organization puts on a sale of affordably priced books for teachers and readers
of all ages, including putting books into the hands of some folks who could not
otherwise afford them; and THEN we take that money and put it back into the
library, strengthening an essential community resource, helping it reach MORE
people and make our community stronger.
We love this town, we love this library, and we love what we
do. Thank you all for being a part of
it.
