(If you’re like me,
you read anything…)
For those of a
certain age-- Do you remember bookmobiles? I grew up in
Montgomery County MD. Before we got a local branch library, the
bookmobile came to our neighborhood every two weeks, stopping for
several hours in front of the Safeway. All its books had plastic
covers, and smelled new (unlike the ones at the ancient Chevy Chase
DC branch). It was a real treat to climb the steps and breathe in
all the colors, smells, and possibilities… It was a brand new
world.
The Reston Friends
have just completed four days of August book sales for
children/education and teens, bringing in over $13,000. The books
you donate and buy help provide support for your library—books,
e-books, programming, even scholarship funds for staff continuing
education, and more. It all comes back to the community!
The big fall book
sale is coming up—Sept 26 (Friends preview evening), then
Thursday through Sunday, Sept 27-30. Check out the bargains galore,
and take home the books you always meant to read! Hours are listed
below.
Did you know
there are 1100 requests on the waiting list for Fifty Shades of
Gray? While you’re waiting, stop by the new releases and pick
up something else! George Pelecanos writes gritty noir stories set
in DC’s underside. Try his latest, The Cut.
Reston Regional also
has his first ones, starting with A Firing Offense. Or if
you’re looking for something lighter, and have somehow missed the
Stephanie Plum books, try Janet Evanovich’s series about the
Trenton NJ heroine who moved from lingerie sales to bounty hunting.
One for the Money is the first, and sets the cast of
characters (they sure are!). She’s up to 18, with another out
soon.
