BOOK SALE FAQ #'s 2, 3 & 4

A few more FAQ's...

2. Why are the crowds so big and what are you doing about it?

The crowds exist because word has gotten out that the books are a great deal at Reston Regional Library's Semi-Annual Book Sales. That's why you've come, right? So please be patient and courteous with your fellow bargain hunters. We run only one ad outside our immediate area, on www.booksalefinder.com. Everything else is local flyer or word of mouth.

We could diminish the crowds by charging a lot more for our books, but that wouldn't serve anyone's interest. We could spread the crowd out more if we had more room, but in the present library configuration, there's no way to do that. Be sure to let your voice be heard when
the plans for renovation of Reston Regional Library come before the County Supervisors. The Supervisor for Hunter Mill District, where Reston Regional Library is located, is Cathy Hudgins. Feel free to contact her with your concerns.

3.  Why don't you extend the sale to the open area out in front of the library?

As the blogger sits here typing, it is pouring rain outside reminding me why we can't extend the sale outside.  Wet weather and books don't do well together.  Crowd control is also a big factor that makes this suggestion impossible. Again, as the plans for renovation of Reston Library get underway, your voice needs to be heard on this issue as well as the issue of increasing parking -- it's a problem every day!

4.  Why don't you have a separate children's sale?

This is an idea we've considered. To do it would require a couple of things to happen. First, we would need to have permission from the Reston Regional Library Branch Manager to hold an additional sale. With 2 semi-annuals, 1 Holiday, 1 Mystery, and 1 Puzzle and sometimes special sales tucked in, we may be hard pressed to get permission.

Second, we need someone to run it. To run a book sale requires a full-time commitment from a number of people over several days. It starts LONG before the books go out onto the tables.

However, if this is something you think you'd like to run, contact us and we can explore the possibilities!

More FAQ's to come. We look forward to seeing you soon!
