Home is Where the Books Are

Rose Tarlow is a noted interior designer. The Private House offers her design perspective and experience in a memoir fashion. Most reviewers on Amazon love this book, recognizing that it is not a 'how-to' manual, but an expression of Tarlow's style and creativity. This copy appears to never have been read, and is $34 at Friends1.

Reston is a unique place, full of lakes, streams, byways and paths that take one right into the heart of nature. It is often difficult to remember that we are less than 30 miles from the seat of government for the free world. Ducks, geese, deer, owls, coyotes, squirrels, beavers, raccoons, foxes and possums make Reston their home. The Nature of Reston captures the serenity of the interaction between Reston
residents and the animals that flourish around us. It is $37, and appears unread. This is an excellent gift book for those who have out of town or out of country visitors who are, as most, charmed by the area they're visiting. Check it out at Friends1.

We hope that you'll bring your out of town guests to a truly unique experience the weekend of April 23 (Friends Night) - April 26. Sure, there are other book sales that weekend, but the Friends of the Reston Regional Library book sale is the largest, our volunteers are the friendliest, and in addition to constant restocking, we practice the 'big flip', making sure that every box is opened and the contents considered for restocking the tables. To get more bang for your book buck, spend the weekend with us!

Juggling Books and Life

As part of our continuing support for the Reston Regional Library, in July 2008 the Friends of Reston Regional Library underwrote a family program called "The Nicolo Whimsey Show."  The juggler was funny, engaging, and extremely talented.  Children of all ages enjoyed him.  As you can tell from the photos, it wasn't just a show to watch -- it was a show to DO!  You can hire Nicolo Whimsey for your own show by going to his website here.

We hope you enjoy these photos from the day. Maybe seeing the kids in shorts and t-shirts will make you feel warm on this very brisk day!

The Cat's Out of the Bag!

Cat lovers and lovers of those who love cats -- YOUR SALE IS COMING! Mark your calendars! For one day only, on July 19, during regular library hours, we will be selling cat books of all kinds. The Friends of RR Library recently acquired a donation that was rich in cat books. We have science books, coffee table books, humor books, breeding information books, and many books about cats by those who love them. The majority of the books are in as-new condition, with many of them signed by author!

Some of them are migrating to our Amazon website. If you see something there that you'd like, e-mail us at restonfriends@gmail.com and ask about them. For those looking for GREAT bargains, stop by on the 19th of July and TELL YOUR FRIENDS!
