Make Your Mystery List
It's time to make your mystery list. Unlike the mystery list that you work from at the grocery store (you know, the one that's on your kitchen table and it's a mystery to remember what was on it), this mystery list is EASY to make and remember!
First, look at your favorite mystery and adventure authors. Write them down. Second, look at the kind of mysteries you like. Some people don't want the ones with lots of autopsies. Some don't want the ones with lots of cursing. Some want mysteries themed to particular interests. Did you know there are genealogy mysteries, knitting mysteries, and a slew of tea/catering/restaurant mysteries? The latter often have recipes!
Now. Having made that list, tuck it into the jacket, purse, or pocket you're going to wear on THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 10. Got it?
Good. Now look at your calendar. Rearrange your day so you can stop by the Reston Regional Library some time during the time frame of 10am - 6pm so you can get first crack at the Mystery & Adventure Sale.
Can't make it on a work day? No problem! Grab the list and show up Saturday, 10-5 or Sunday, 1-3. The sale will extend through Valentine's Day, the 14th.
Did you get that? It's VALENTINE'S DAY on the 14th! So you need to make a list of your sweetie's favorite mystery/adventure authors as well!
See you there!

'Snow Mystery
It'snow mystery that we have the best donations in the county. And in the area of mysteries, we're returning them to you in the form of a mystery sale. Beginning the 5th, we'll have an abundant display, a friendly cashier, downright plummy prices, and restocking throughout. Any kind of mystery and adventure book you're looking for might be in this harvest, so stop by during regular library hours.
You might wonder whether the mystery sale pulls off a lot of books from the Semi-Annual sale, making the mystery genre there much sparser. The answer is NO. Actually, the reason these special mini-sales evolve is because we are often GENEROUSLY blessed with more than we can display during a Semi-Annual sale. If the amount reaches a critical point, we start pulling off for a more topic-specific mini.
So there you go! Our excess is your gain! Stop by to see us! Stock up for the snow. Again. Looks like it's going to be a LONG winter.

Mysteriouser and Mysteriouser
Today we had a question about our Mystery and Adventure sale.

Q: Will this be one of those sales where people just buy a brown paper bag without knowing the contents, thus the mystery?
A: (Slaps forehead). NO -- the books have been selected for content. The content is mysteries and/or adventure!
If these authors are on your reading list, you might want to stop by.
Agatha Christie

Dick Francis
Ellis Peters
Elizabeth Peters
Arthur Conan Doyle
Tony Hillerman
Dan Brown
Janet Evanovich
Michael Connelly
Patricia Cornwell
Charlaine Harris
Sue Grafton
and it goes on, and on and on. Restonians read a lot of mysteries. Then they donate a lot of mysteries! So our own excesses are our own gains!
Stop by during library hours and pick up a pile of books to read!
NOTE: This is a MINI sale -- not a Semi-Annual Sale -- do not expect the same QUANTITY, but come and be impressed by the same QUALITY...and the fantastic volunteers.

We've Been Blogged
Check out what Restonian said about our sale! It seems the efforts we've made to increase civility are starting pay off. The yeoman efforts our book specialists make to restock and cull are also paying off. We've made more money so far this sale than any in the past, and closing earlier each day (due to new library hours) gives our volunteers a chance to recover some before the next day!
Donations will be accepted again beginning October 6. We look forward to seeing you at the following sales:
Jigsaw Puzzle Mini Sale (November)
Holiday Mini Sale (December )
Mystery Mini Sale (February)
Childrens & Young Adult Sale (March)
Semi-Annual Used Book Sale (April)
So watch this spot for more details!
